Niels Souverijns joined VITO after finishing his Master and PhD in Geography at KU Leuven (Belgium). During his PhD, he developed several algorithms for both ground-based and space-borne remote sensing applications over Antarctica with a focus on cloud and precipitation systems and its implementation in state-of-the-art regional climate models.

At VITO Remote Sensing, his main occupation is the development of land cover products for multiple sensors. Currently, he is responsible for the creation of dynamic land cover products with an aim to detect land cover changes over time.
