New Horizon Europe project: ScaleAgData

Scaling agricultural sensor data for improved monitoring of agri-environmental conditions

We are excited to announce the start of a new Horizon Europe project, that will focus on unlocking the huge potential that lies in opening the data from in-situ sensors on farms for a European-wide monitoring of agri-environmental conditions.

Innovations are planned on how these sensor data can be used to the benefit of the farmers as well as on how to upscale local observational or sensed data by integrating them with earth observation data to enhance monitoring capabilities at national, regional or European level.

'Research & Innovation Labs' (RILabs) will be set up to develop, test and demonstrate how integrating near real-time (NRT) sensor data can provide improved monitoring capabilities for a specific topic. The six RILabs that will drive innovation are: yield monitoring, crops management, water productivity, grasslands, soil health and dairy. Some of the foreseen products are parcel-level yield estimations of wheat and potato, soil variables such as texture and carbon content, and surface soil moisture and root zone soil moisture at 10m resolution.

With VITO as coordinator, the ScaleAGData consortium further consists of 25 partners that represent research institutes and infrastructure providers, technology and agri-tech SMEs, machinery producers and EO service providers, think tanks, insurance companies and data integration companies from across Europe.

Partners:
VITO, ILVO, DME, NP, ICCS, VTT, LUKE, Kuva, WODR, PSNC, HORTA SRL, IFAPA, ATB, OHB DS, DMK, MIGAL, VRI IES, EGM, CNH, AVR, AUTH, EURAC, AGINS, UGent, DHI and Farm Europe.
