Carolien Toté

Senior R&D Professional

Carolien holds a Master’s Degree in Bio-Engineering (KULeuven, Belgium). After obtaining her degree, she worked as a remote sensing and GIS researcher at the University of Cuenca (Ecuador) and at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of the KULeuven (Belgium), gaining experience in natural resources management using remote sensing, hydrologic modeling and GIS.

Understanding data through the combined view at temporal, spatial and spectral dimensions.

In 2009 she joined the VITO Remote Sensing team. She was involved in projects focused on remote sensing applications for agricultural and environmental monitoring (DevCoCast, VGT@Work, AGRICAB, GMFS, ImpactMin) and organised several training workshops in Europe, South America and Africa.

Currently, Carolien focusses on the validation and improvement of remote sensing products, as member of the Image Quality team. She also joined the scientific support team of the PROBA-V processing centre, the data quality teams of the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) and the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), and the Optical Mission Performance Cluster. Carolien is also involved in VITO’s Vegetation team, working on global land cover, biodiversity and vegetation changes (SEN4LDN, LCFM).
