Dirk Daems

IT Architect

After graduating as an MSC in Software and Electronics Engineering, Dirk started as an embedded software engineer in the telecommunication sector and worked as a software developer/architect for SME’s, focusing on service-oriented architectures. At VITO, he worked on several ESA- and EC-funded research projects trying to ease the user exploitation and uptake of earth observation data, which resulted in the operational PROBA-V MEP platform and its successor Terrascope, the Belgian Collaborative Ground Segment.

Selecting the right tool for the right job is key.

Currently, Dirk is leading the VITO Remote Sensing DevOps team and working on the transition of processing infrastructure and core Terrascope components to public cloud platforms like the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem.
