Jan Biesemans
Head of Geomatics
Jan Biesemans holds an MSc (1995) and PhD (2000) in Agricultural and Applied Biological Sciences (Soil Physics and Hydrology). After 5 years of academic research and teaching activities, he worked as a C++ software development engineer in the prepress industry. Thereafter, Jan was an independent consultant for private, governmental and inter-governmental organisations. He focused on the generation of custom-made software solutions for specific data analysis problems in the field of spatial epidemiology and the modeling of environmental processes.
Remote sensing answers what, when, where & why.
In 2004, he became a Project Coordinator within the VITO Remote Sensing Unit, coordinating software development activities for airborne/terrestrial remote sensing processing and data hosting systems. At present, Jan is also head of the Geomatics group as part of the VITO Remote Sensing Unit.
