Liesbeth De Keukelaere

R&D Professional

Liesbeth De Keukelaere graduated from KU Leuven, Belgium, in 2013 with a Master's degree in Bio-science Engineering, specialized in soil and water management and earth observation. After graduation, she joined VITO and became an integral part of the Remote Sensing group, dedicating her expertise to various water applications.

Watching the earth from a distance unravels features, patterns and dynamics that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

Her work primarily focuses on atmospheric corrections (iCOR) and the retrieval of water quality information, such as chlorophyll, turbidity, and suspended sediments in inland, coastal, and transitional waters. Recently, she has expanded her research to include the detection of macroplastics in riverine environments, addressing a critical and growing environmental issue.  Liesbeth utilizes a diverse array of remote sensing data sources in her work, including satellite, airborne and drone data.
