Alexandra Evans
R&D Professional
Alexandra joined Vito in May 2024 and focusses on the application of remote sensing in quantifying biodiversity pathways and ecosystem services for use in Natural Capital Accounting.
The use of remote sensing in environmental impact reporting is a vital step towards addressing the threats of ecosystem degradation and biodiversity loss.
Alexandra is an ecologist with a special interest in the spatial distribution and evolution of biodiversity. She obtained a MSc from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, where she used remote sensing and hierarchical occupancy modelling to characterise the habitat-use of reptile communities in Madagascar. She pursued her passion for spatial ecology through a PhD at KU Leuven, Belgium, using ecological niche modelling, Next Generation Sequencing and metabarcoding to tell the story of the effects of climate change on the distribution and evolution of European orchids and their fungal symbionts.
