Giorgia Milli
R&D Professional
Giorgia is an AI researcher with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. She specialized in Medical Informatics and Telemedicine at the Polytechnic of Turin and worked as a researcher in the Digital Pathology team of a medical software company in Sweden. Furthering her expertise, she earned a degree in AI with specialization in Big Data Analytics through the Advanced Master of AI program at KU Leuven.
Giorgia has extensive experience in image analysis and AI tools, particularly in cancer segmentation and spatial -omics mapping. She transitioned her skills to the remote sensing field by developing annotation-efficient machine learning solutions for marine litter detection in coastal and harbor areas.
Monitoring the fragile equilibrium of our ecosystem through remote sensing empowers us to tackle environmental challenges.
She joined the Applications team of VITO in 2022. Her main focus is developing AI-based pipelines for land cover mapping, change detection, and multi-sensor time-series data compression and integration, specifically for agricultural, vegetation and natural capital accounting projects.
