Kaner Levent

Support Engineer

Kaner is an all-round engineer with bachelor’s degree in Geomatics Engineering and master’s degree in Satellite Communication and Remote Sensing. He has over 6 years of professional experience in different branches of the industry. Currently, in his Professional Support role at VITO, he enjoys combining his knowledge on the industry, the GIS & remote sensing applications, and technical & user support.

At VITO, his main role is to provide support for the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE) - the European Space Agency's official ecosystem which provides data and processing environment for the global user base. On side, he assists a Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) project through on-site visits.

Balancing our actions' economic and environmental implications is one of the keys to sustainability and solidarity. In large scales, a holistic approach can be taken to achieve it. Then it will be inevitable to include remote sensing & GIS & locational insights into the decision making.

During his master’s degree Kaner joined Airbus Direct Receiving Station Türkiye as an R&D Geospatial Specialist, where he conducted data analysis with proprietary software & Google Earth Engine and developed the front end of a WEBGIS app. Following, he joined European Space Agency Business Incubation Center Bavaria (ESA BIC) where he was involved in preparation of reports and presentations for the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre competitions. After receiving his master’s degree he joined Netcad Software as a Technology Solutions Engineer and later moved to the lead role of the same team. Working both the first line and the second line of support, he resolved or escalated clients’ web and spatial database application issues and guided/mentored Geomatics engineers in service desks for WEBGIS software.

Later Kaner became a self-employed individual where he conducted temporal change detection analysis for optical remote sensing imagery for clients.

Currently he enjoys contributing to the sustainable land use practices through his role at VITO Remote Sensing.
