Lori Giagnacovo

Remote Sensing Scientist NCA

Lori Giagnacovo is an enthusiastic junior researcher with a passion for nature valuation, conservation and restoration. She obtained a MSc in Bioscience Engineering at KU Leuven, with specialized disciplines in forest, nature and landscape systems. During her master thesis she explored the use of Remote Sensing in combination with practical fieldwork to investigate degradation and resilience loss in Zambian woodlands.

How marvellous to work with data from satellites miles away to address environmental challenges so close to us, and discover global patterns that are in need of global efforts.

Currently, Lori expanded her focus towards other natural and urban systems and is determined in contributing to the research in effective biodiversity and ecosystem assessment. As part of the Natural Capital Accounting (NCA) team, she develops habitat prediction maps and support improvements to the data processing and workflow operations within Ecosystem Accounting (EA) projects. With her background in complex ecosystem dynamics via Earth Observation (EO) data, she is also involved in projects related to habitat shifts to examine the drivers of change and monitor the habitat condition.
